Your iPhone broke in Guwahati. Now what?
This is the local landscape — what kinds of shops exist, what separates a good repair from a regrettable one, and how to protect yourself wherever you end up going. Written from a bench that has been doing this in Bhangagarh for over ten years.
The three kinds of shop, and what each is actually for
Apple’s official service channel. The right choice if your iPhone is still under warranty or AppleCare+, because independent repair can affect that cover. Worth knowing: for out-of-warranty devices this is usually the most expensive route, and it works by module replacement rather than component-level board repair. A board fault generally means a board swap, at a board’s price.
Independent Apple specialists. Workshops that work on Apple devices specifically and are equipped for the full range — from a ten-minute charging port clean to microscope-level logic board work. This is what we are.
General mobile repair counters. Genuinely useful for straightforward jobs across many brands, and often the fastest and cheapest option for a simple screen. Where they struggle is Apple-specific: laminated displays, glued batteries, paired components and Face ID hardware all punish inexperience, and the damage from a rushed job is usually worse than the original fault.
None of these is the “right” answer for everyone. The right answer depends on your phone’s age, warranty status and what has actually failed.
What can be repaired locally
Essentially everything. You do not need to courier your iPhone to Delhi or Bangalore for any of this:

We work on iPhone 7 to the iPhone 18 series. Older models are usually still serviceable; it comes down to parts availability for your exact model, which we will confirm honestly when you call.
The three questions to ask before handing over your phone
Ask these at any shop, including ours. How they answer tells you more than any review.
1. “Which part grade will you fit?”
Screens and batteries come in genuine quality tiers — original pulls, high-grade aftermarket, budget substitutes. Every tier is legitimate at the right price, and for an older phone a budget part can be a sensible choice.
The problem is not the grade. The problem is not being told. A shop that will not name the grade has chosen it for you, and you find out which one you got months later, when the colours look wrong or the battery fades early.
2. “What is the warranty, and is it in writing?”
Verbal warranties evaporate the moment there is a disagreement. The period and what it covers should be on your receipt before you pay.
3. “Can you repair boards, or only swap parts?”
This one matters even for simple repairs, and it is the question almost nobody asks.
A shop that can only replace modules has to guess which module failed. Sometimes that means replacing a screen, then a battery, then a charging port, while you pay each time and the actual fault — a failed component on the board — sits there untouched.
A bench with microsoldering capability diagnoses the real fault first. That is cheaper for you even when the answer turns out to be a simple part swap.

“Motherboard problem, buy a new one”
This is the single most common thing we hear from people walking in for a second opinion, and it is worth understanding what it usually means.
Often it does not mean the board is dead. It means that shop does not do board-level work — which is a completely different skill, bench and toolset from replacing parts. Microsoldering, component-level diagnosis and IC replacement are not things most phone counters are equipped for, and there is no shame in a shop saying so.
What is unfortunate is when “we cannot fix this” gets delivered to the customer as “this cannot be fixed.”
A failed charging IC, a corroded trace after a spill, a short pulling the battery flat — these are frequently repairable under a microscope. If your phone has been written off somewhere else, and especially if your photos are still inside it, get a second opinion before you accept it.
What diagnosis costs, and why it costs anything

Inclusive of all taxes. The fee is waived in full if you go ahead with the repair with us — so for most customers it costs nothing.
We are upfront about charging for it because a real diagnosis is bench time, tools and a technician’s attention, often under a microscope. Charging for that, and waiving it when you proceed, is what lets every device get a thorough look instead of a five-minute guess at the counter. It also means we can afford to tell you “this is not worth repairing” — an answer that earns us nothing and is sometimes the truth.
Anyone quoting you a firm repair price over the phone, sight unseen, is either guessing or planning to revise it later. Two phones with “a cracked screen” are different jobs once opened if one has a bent frame.
Before you hand over your phone — five minutes
This applies wherever you take it.
Back it up. iCloud or a computer. Some repairs require a restore, and nobody can recover data that was never backed up. If storage is the reason you have not backed up, here is how to fix that without paying for it.
Turn off Find My if the phone still switches on. Settings → your name → Find My → Find My iPhone. It blocks several repair and restore operations while it is active.
Never share your Apple Account password. No repair needs it. Anyone asking for it should be refused.
Talk about the passcode. Many faults cannot be verified from a lock screen — a camera, a speaker, Face ID, a display. Discuss this up front rather than after. Our privacy policy covers how your data is handled.
Photograph the phone from all sides before you leave it, including any existing damage. Any honest shop will welcome it.
If it is a liquid spill, do not wait
One exception to everything above: liquid damage is time-critical. Corrosion starts inside the phone within hours and keeps spreading while the phone sits switched off. A device that could have been saved on day one can be unrecoverable after a weekend in a drawer.

- Explain — in plain language, with the options, because there is often more than one
- Quote — in writing, before anything is opened or ordered
- Repair — only after you approve. If we find something unexpected inside, we stop and call you
- Test — the fault and everything around it, so you do not get a working screen and a dead speaker
- Return — with a written warranty on eligible repairs
