What Could Be Wrong

Normal cycle ageing

MacBook batteries are rated for a set number of cycles. After a few years of daily use, capacity drops noticeably.

Swelling

Ageing cells can expand, pressing against the trackpad and bowing the top case. This is the fault we most want to see early.

Heat

Sustained heavy workloads, blocked vents and a dust-clogged fan all accelerate battery wear.

A charging circuit fault

Sometimes the battery is fine and the charging circuit or port is the real problem — worth confirming before replacing anything.

What We Check

Before any quote, and before anything is opened up:

• Read cycle count, condition and actual capacity from the system
• Check physically for swelling against the trackpad and top case
• Test the charger, port and charging circuit
• Check thermals and fan condition, since heat drives battery wear

How We Handle It

MacBook batteries are glued multi-cell packs, and on many models they sit directly under the trackpad and keyboard. A swelling pack presses the trackpad upward — if your trackpad has stopped clicking properly or the bottom case doesn’t sit flat, treat it as urgent: swollen lithium cells are a safety issue, and continued charging makes them worse.

Replacement involves safely removing the adhesive-mounted cells, fitting a quality battery, and then verifying that macOS reports condition and cycle count correctly and the machine charges normally. On models where the battery is part of the top-case assembly we’ll explain the options before you decide.

Your Repair Options

Battery replacement

The worn or swollen battery is replaced, then charging behaviour, cycle reporting and thermals are verified.

Charging circuit repair

Where the fault is the charging circuit or port rather than the cell, that is repaired instead.

Battery plus top case

On models where the battery is bonded into the top case, or where swelling has damaged the case, more than the cell may need replacing. We explain this before starting.
