If you have been waiting for the iPhone 18, here is the short version: Apple did not release one.
What actually launched in autumn 2026 is the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, followed by Apple’s first foldable, the iPhone Duo. There is no standard, non-Pro iPhone 18 on Apple’s website, in its line-up, or in any announcement it has made.
This catches people out, because for years the pattern was reliable: a number, then the same number with “Pro” after it. That pattern did not hold this time.

So the phone occupying the “regular iPhone” slot is the iPhone 17.
What this means for you
If you wanted a new non-Pro iPhone
Buy the iPhone 17, or the iPhone 16 if you want to spend less. Neither becomes worse because a Pro model launched. A phone that met your needs last month still meets them now.
If you specifically wanted the newest thing
That is the iPhone 18 Pro, or the iPhone Duo if a folding screen appeals. Both are Pro-tier purchases with Pro-tier pricing.
If you were waiting to replace a broken phone
This is the situation worth thinking hardest about. Waiting for a phone that has not been announced has no end date. If your current iPhone has a specific fault — the battery dies by afternoon, the screen is cracked, it will not charge — that fault is usually fixable, and fixing it is almost always the cheaper path. Be careful what you read about “iPhone 18 specs”
There is a lot of content circulating with confident-sounding specifications for a standard iPhone 18: screen sizes, chip names, camera details, release dates. None of it comes from Apple, because Apple has not announced the product.
Some of it may eventually turn out to be right. That does not make it a fact today. Our rule on this site is simple: if we cannot read it on apple.com, we label it as unconfirmed. The one thing genuinely worth knowing
If your reason for wanting a new phone is that your current one has a problem rather than that you want the new camera, the launch changes nothing about your situation.
A worn battery is a worn battery whether or not a new Pro exists. And in our Bhangagarh workshop, the single most common reason people replace an otherwise healthy iPhone is a battery that has quietly lost capacity — a component that can be replaced for a fraction of what a new phone costs.
