Why back glass breaks so easily
The back panel is toughened glass over the wireless charging coil, cameras and antennas. Unlike the screen, it usually hits the ground on a corner or edge where stress concentrates — one bad angle and the whole panel spiderwebs while the screen survives untouched.
The repair, by generation
iPhone 8 through 14: Apple bonded the rear glass directly to the frame with formidable adhesive. Amateur removal (prying, brute heat) damages antennas and the charging coil — which is why this repair earned a bad reputation from shops doing it badly. Done properly, the shattered glass is removed with controlled laser-assisted or precision-heat technique, every fragment and adhesive trace is cleared, the coil and antennas inspected, and new glass bonded with fresh adhesive.
iPhone 15, 16 and 17 generations: Apple redesigned the back as a serviceable panel. Removal is cleaner, risk is lower, and the repair is generally friendlier to your wallet — one of the few times a newer iPhone is cheaper to fix.
When a housing swap makes sense: if the frame itself is bent (check: does the phone rock on a flat table?), new glass on a warped chassis will crack again. In those cases a full housing replacement is the honest recommendation — we’ll show you the bend before suggesting it.
